The Future Is Bright: Scholarships A-Z

Approximately 2,000 undocumented students graduate from Arizona high schools every year. Most are without the institutional support and guidance they deserve. That’s where ScholarshipsA-Z comes in. What started in 2009 as a national scholarship list, has turned into a youth-led organization that partners with student immigrants as they prepare for the future. The non-profit program has spent the last 13 years building a supportive community of students and providing them with the resources to succeed in higher education regardless of their immigration status. “Students who complete the program are 4 to 6 times more likely to enroll in higher education than the national average,” says Carolina Silva, the program’s Executive Director.

Growing up undocumented can have a significant impact on the self-confidence of immigrant students. This is why the Scholarships A-Z leadership positions are held by the youth that it serves. “When you’re advocating for yourself, you’re advocating for others as well,” says Darlene Peralta, a student support fellow. By empowering underserved communities of undocumented students, Scholarships A-Z is helping Arizona’s youths navigate their options, achieve their educational goals, and thrive after high school.
