Secure Your Finances with Overdraft Privilege:
A Solution for Peace of Mind
Vantage West offers Overdraft Privilege to cover you during unexpected situations, like when you don’t have sufficient funds and need a short-term solution to cover payments.
If you are opted into our Overdraft Privilege program and overdraw your checking account, we may pay the transaction(s) on your behalf. Transactions could include ATM withdrawals, debit card purchases, checks, automated payments (ACH) or other electronic transactions.
You must opt in to the program for Vantage West to pay for overdraft transactions. You can also opt out of the Overdraft Privilege program at any time.
Additional Details & Overdraft Privilege FAQs
- Overdraft Privilege is a voluntary service. You can opt in or out at any time. ATM or debit card overdrafts are covered only if you opt in.
- Overdraft Privilege is not a line of credit. If you’ve opted in and overdraw your account, we have the discretion to cover overdrafts up to your limit, first subtracting overdraft fees.
- Transactions will be processed against your available account balance at the time of processing. We use your available balance to determine potential overdrafts and overdraft fees.
- Your next deposit will go toward repaying the overdraft amount and associated fees.
- Within 30 days of the initial overdraft, you must restore your account to a positive balance.
- Failure to bring the account current within this period may lead to revocation of Overdraft Privilege, at our discretion.
- Non-payment may result in the closure of your checking account.
- If an item overdraws your checking account, it incurs an Overdraft Privilege Fee of $5.00 per item if the negative balance is $10.00 or less. For balances over $10.00, the fee is $29.00 per item.
- Transaction processing order may affect the total fees incurred, as transactions may not be processed in chronological order.
- There’s a cap of 6 fees per business day for overdrawing your account.
As a not-for-profit organization, any fee income earned is reinvested into our Membership in the forms of free accounts, top-rated online banking, an extensive branch network, and skilled team members. We also back the local community through financial education, charity, and economic development. In 2023, we donated over $160,000 to 54 local organizations and distributed over $289 million through our CDFI designation for COVID-19 recovery and loans to low-income consumers and businesses.
- No. Vantage West may pay overdrafts within the Overdraft Privilege limits, but it’s a discretionary courtesy, not an obligation. We’re not obligated to pay items if your account lacks sufficient funds. Our payment of one overdraft item doesn’t bind us to pay others or provide prior notice of refusal.
- Transactions may not be processed in the order in which they occurred, and the order in which transactions are received and processed may impact the total amount of service charges incurred.
- Your account may receive numerous deposit and withdrawal transactions in various forms. If your account is overdrawn, multiple transactions may result in multiple service charges (up to 6 fees per business day).
- Overdraft Protection is an option. Overdraft Protection automatically transfers funds from designated accounts (savings, Visa, or line of credit) if your checking account lacks sufficient funds.
- We can help you set up Overdraft Protection from an existing share account or assist you in applying for a Visa credit card or line of credit. Contact us to learn more.
- Yes, they are different services. Overdraft Protection transfers will occur first if funds are available. Overdraft Privilege will be used only if you do not have sufficient available funds after the Overdraft Protection transfers.
