Seed Saving for a Brighter Future: Native Seeds/SEARCH
Native Seeds/SEARCH is a non-profit organization whose mission is to support the arid-adapted crop diversity of the Southwest in support of sustainable farming and food security. Prevailing U.S. agricultural systems threaten our region’s native crop diversity by prioritizing short-term profit over long-term sustainability. With the immediate impact of climate change and drought, we must invest in a wider pool of genetic diversity in order to keep food on the table for ourselves and future generations. Luckily, with the help of local schools and farmers, Native Seeds/SEARCH is replenishing Tucson’s supply of native plants one crop at a time. Watch as we follow recipients of a Native Seeds/SEARCH Community Seed Grant from Sky Islands Public High School as they learn the importance of sustainability through the cultivation and seed-saving that goes into their community garden.
