New Year’s Resolutions for Your Wallet

Whether you set New Year’s resolutions or not, this is the perfect time to evaluate your finances and create or update your financial goals.

We offer many free tools to help you consider your financial position and move in the direction you want. One tremendous resource is our online and on-demand course library. You can check out all the topics here.

Some of the short and interactive modules include:

You can also find blog articles on many topics, including fraud protection, saving, investing, home, auto, and more, when you visit VantageWest.org/Learn.

If you haven’t already added these to your New Year’s resolutions, we recommend you consider the following.

1. Commit to Budgeting

We have a free monthly budget calculator, where you can input your monthly expenses per category (rent/mortgage, utilities, food/groceries, etc.) and your monthly income. The system automatically calculates your fixed and flex costs, and shows you the category breakdown with a corresponding graph. You can also check out calculators for emergency savings, debt payoff, your retirement lifestyle, and more.

2. Schedule a Financial Review

Want to get your finances in order, but don’t know where to start? Or perhaps your financial situation has changed, and you need to determine if your savings plan needs adjusting. Set up a Financial Review at your preferred branch and we’ll go over your financial goals and what may be holding you back from achieving those goals. This free service is available to all Vantage West Members.

3. Reflect on Your Spending

There are so many things we buy every week, and sometimes even every day. From subscription services, to eating out, to self-care days, our money can go in a variety of directions. We encourage you to stop and look at what you spend money on, and evaluate whether that’s a good use of your hard-earned dollars. The tools we mentioned above can help with doing this. There are also a variety of software systems and mobile apps that can track your spending for you. But even if you just take a half-hour and write down where your money went over the past month, it can be an eye-opening step towards financial awareness and making your plan too strong to fail.

And, from all of us at Vantage West, Happy New Year!
